Date: May 24-26, 2019Location: Queen’s Park, New Westminster (Southwest corner, near 1st St. and Vancouver St.)

The Scouts of New Westminster would like to invite interested Scout Groups from other Areas and Councils to join us at the camp that brings a whole new meaning to the expression, "Wilderness Camping".

Hosted by the 12th New Westminster Scout Group, this long-standing Camp retains its tradition of being an invitational camp for Scouts from the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and Washington State. This year is our 32nd Annual Hyack Camp!

We plan to have the youth play Bubble Soccer which was a huge hit last year.

On Saturday morning we will be preoccupied in rummaging for breakfast and then walking it off in the Hyack Parade. Our afternoon program has yet to be finalized but as always we will have some form of demonstration at the Park, as well as swim passes to the Canada Games Pool.

Following tradition, we will have our Saturday dinner cooking competition, in which the Scouts will have the opportunity to win “The Coveted Hyack Cooking Trophy”. The theme and the secret ingredient will be announced on site.

Saturday evening will feature the always popular campfire on the baseball diamond. New Westminster issues one fire permit a year and this is it. Come prepared with song, skit and cheer.

Camp fees are $15/person. This includes the bubble soccer, lunch after the parade on Saturday, swim pass, campfire, mug-up on Saturday, and a Hyack Camp crest.

Saturday event fees are $5/person for all Cubs and/or parents who would like to participate. This includes lunch, swim pass, campfire, mug-up on Saturday, and a Hyack Camp crest.

Scouter Steve Dreise has Gone Home. Steve passed away suddenly on February 11, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Steve began his Scouting career in the late 1970s with 1st Willoughby Cubs, where he is remembered as a “noisy, friendly kid with a happy smile and bold attitude towards everything.” He was also known to be mischievous and accident prone. More often than not, upon delivering Steve to the weekly Cub meeting, his father Karl would describe the week’s injuries to the Leaders. Bumps and bruises would continue through Steve’s adult life, but instead, the tales would be recounted over several cups of coffee.
